Being a fair-skinned kid growing up in a coastal city in Australia in the 70's and 80's was tough!

No-one other than my beautiful forward-thinking Mum really took sun protection seriously.

There were more products on the market to accelerate a tan than to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

School tunics had no sleeves, there was no hat policy at school, no rashvests for the beach and no real understanding of covering up for sun protection.

No wonder I shied away from the beach where people spent hours baking themselves!

Rather than summer being  fun and relaxing as a kid and teenager, it was often stressful feeling like my skin was burning and my freckles were getting darker and darker! And to add to my self consciousness, Mum made me wear a t-shirt in the water at the beach!

Fast forward many years and  now I love the summer, the beach and spending time in the ocean. We all know better and are better educated about the effects of the sun on our skin.

After many years searching for cool long sleeve clothes and long sleeve swimwear to wear in the hot summer months, I decided to take matters into my own hands and Shy Skin was born.

Designed and Made in Australia, for people all over the world, Shy Skin is my vision to bring style to covering up in the sunny weather.
